The Stepford Wives (1975)

The Stepford Wives was alright. It mostly tries to present itself as a straight thriller but it's interesting when the politics peak through. One scene in particular shows even people in Stepford trying to play at "oh we're very liberal".

The Stepford Wives (1975)

The two female leads who aren't exactly feminist activists but "dabbled in women's lib in New York" run into an older woman in town and she gossips to them about how a black family is moving into town. When the main characters don't react negatively the woman immediately revises whatever she was about to say and says she thinks it's good. And it makes sense considering Stepford is such a liberal town, which the two characters have to hold back laughter at.

The reasoning given for Stepford being the most liberal town around is... they had the first chinese restaurant in the county and they had a women's liberation lecture once.
